Description

Framing the World (Fall 2021) (Online)

Sept. 18 - Oct. 23
10:00am - 1:00pm Central Time

Instructor: Katherine Tanner Silverman

Framing the World is a virtual hybrid course where we create narratives based on the way we frame objects, landscapes and ourselves in the camera. Stories, memories and the imagination emerge as a flip book of images is collected. We then take these images and turn them into a piece of art you can share with the world. Make in nature, meet in cyberspace. Framing the World will have you journeying outside while a story emerges in the virtual realm. Students will gain insight into the minds of their co-creators, their own process and collaborating with technology.

Katherine Tanner Silverman has embraced a renaissance theatre career holding various positions including director, education manager, instructor, facilitator, actor and producer. During the Pandemic, Katherine served as the 2020 Festival Director for The International Voices Project during its first virtual season. She directed scenes from the new play Sita Burning by Ajitha Reddy for Chicago Dramatists. She co-devised Hindsight 2020, a show with an international cast, directed by Rebecca Haley Clark. Katherine is a co-producer of Collab24, a new, 24-hour devised theatre festival which brings national artists together to build supportive, creative networks. Katherine is a co-founder and Artistic Director of Mentalhaus, a devised theatre company that creates work rooted in themes of mental health. In her current performance research, Katherine explores the intersections between the body in dialogue with the space it inhabits dubbed “the eternal space." Katherine holds an M.F.A. in European Devised Performance from Columbia College Chicago.

Classes will be held via Zoom. Instructors will send out Zoom invites one day before class begins. We encourage students to setup a Zoom account for themselves before class if they have not already to ensure when class begins you are able to jump straight into the art!
