Acting in Readings
with Adrianne Cury

Learn and practice the techniques that make you a more valuable actor in the play development process with Chicago Dramatists, the leader in Chicago-style new play development! Acting teacher and coach, director, and award-winning actor Adrianne Cury brings exceptional perspective from her performances in the Ashland New Plays Festival to help you strengthen your skill at performing in cold readings, staged readings, in-class presentations and developmental workshops. Drawing on Shurtleff’s Guideposts, you’ll hone your ability to quickly analyze scripts, clarify strong acting choices, and find the fearlessness to play a multitude of roles. You’ll also learn how to provide writers the kind of helpful, supportive feedback that makes you a more valuable partner in the play development process. You will conclude Acting in Readings with a resume credit that lets playwrights, directors and casting associates know you are ready to help create new plays and join the roster of actors eligible for casting in Chicago Dramatists classes and staged readings.

Adrianne Cury is an in-demand actor, teacher and director having worked with a host of Chicago-area theaters, including Writers, Chicago Shakespeare, Chicago Shakespeare Project, Lifeline, Drury Lane, About Face, and many others. Regionally, she has worked for Indiana Rep, BoarsHead, Human Race, Constellation Stage, New American and Artists Ensemble Theaters. She has also acted for several Regional Theater’s new play festivals, and regularly casts, directs and acts for Chicago Dramatists in staged readings and new play festivals. She loved acting in the short film, LUNCH IN LIMA, and playing Mrs. Alving in Ibsen’s GHOSTS in Turkey on a MacArthur Grant via ShawChicago. She has received two After Dark Awards, one Jeff Citation, and a Jeff Award nomination. She enjoys teaching and coaching actors for both screen and stage auditions.
