Playwriting for Humans (Fall 2025) (Online)

5 Wednesdays
Nov 19 - Dec 17

6 pm - 9 pm Central Time

Instructor: Joshua Fardon (he/him/his)

In an era in which the creative process may be leapfrogged with a prompt, it’s easy to lose touch with the humanity in your writing. In this workshop class for beggining and intermediate level playwrights, you will find creative support for beginning or developing a script with emotional resonance and authenticity. Through class presentations, exercises, discussions, and detailed examination and analysis of your work, we will encourage you to turn inward, get personal, take risks, defy expectations, jump the hurdles of pride and fear, and send your scripts to new, unexpected and exciting places.

JOSHUA FARDON’s plays have been produced in Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, Denver, Fort Lauderdale and elsewhere. One Acts produced at the Ensemble Studio Theatre, the Toronto Fringe, Pigs Do Fly, Sacred Fools, Saturn and Vine, The Secret Rose, Slap n' Tickle, Stevedore, and the Yale Cabaret. He is a three-time O'Neill semifinalist. He sold a pilot to Miramax Television. He has appeared onstage at The Public, the Yale Rep, CSC (Off-Broadway), The Old Globe, South Coast Rep, The Mark Taper Forum, and the Ahmanson. Film and TV includes Chicago Fire, Frasier, The West Wing, Conspiracy Theory and Volcano. He was the voice of Luke Skywalker in the Lucasfilm/Highbridge Audio NPR production of Return of the Jedi. A graduate of Northwestern University and the acting department of the Yale School of Drama; a member of the Writers Guild of America-East, the Dramatists Guild, SAG-AFTRA and AEA, the Creative Director of Naked Angels' Tuesdays@9 Chicago, and a Chicago Dramatists Resident Playwright. He is repped by Elle Diken at Tendency Holdings Talent Management.

Classes will be held via Zoom. Instructors will send out Zoom invites one day before class begins. We encourage students to setup a Zoom account for themselves before class if they have not already to ensure when class begins you are able to jump straight into the art!
